What are the steps to get a laptop hard drive to boot to win98se. I can get it to boot to the command prompt of the internal flash can, I checked with part.exe and its a fat12 mbr. (I'm, guessing that's the windows ce mbr). If i change the boot order that should not matter. I have tried making a partition on the hard drive and booting to that , then i was gonna instal from the secondary partition, But the problem is when i boot to the internal flash its a fat12 and doesnt reconize the partiton. I even tried booting to the hard drive, making that bootable and it just hangs. can anyone help me in real time chat. (icq 36060752) (ih8yourass on aim) (ih8yourass2@hotmail.com on msn messenger) thanks

go back to some of the earliest IA-1 pages here on Linux-Hacker.net, and you'll see messages from bball and others about using the Ranish Partition Manager utility program, FAT-12 versus FAT-16 DOS partitions, and making the partition bootable. it seems that MicroSloth FDISK and FORMAT commands don't do everything just the way you'd expect them to. the Ranish PART.EXE utility does exactly what you tell it. make sure your hard disk partitions are either FAT-16 or VFAT-16, and your boot partition is actually marked bootable. good luck !!

I used part.exe to set the boot. I set it to fat16 but I have NOT tried setting it to vfat16. When I have it set to Fat16 and I put the hdd in my desktop it will boot. But when I put it back into the ia-1 it wont boot. ant other suggestions or should I try vfat-16? and what is vfat-16 ???
