Core voltage settings
Jumpers not as simple as pull-off for zero, solder in for one

I recall someone posting a while back about frying their IA-1 while trying to adjust the core voltage. I noticed while playing with the FSB that the jumper scheme for the core voltage is different. Instead of rotating a pull-up/pull-down resistor - there are zero ohm resistors which correspond to a '1', and valued resistors (I believe 1k) that correspond to a '0'. I'm not sure what would happen if you just lifted a resistor to make a zero, but this might explain the wierdness.

HI.
I tried to modify my IA-1., but I did some mistakes :(
Ihave 400MHZ AMD-K6-2 .
it has 2.2V for Core.
the original CPU 266Mhz, has 1.9 V core

*) Change FSB multiplier to 100Mhz. through resoldering SMD resistor.. it's working, the dispaly show 400 Mhz (cause default multiplier 4X).

*) trying to boot from original msn image and beos image. it is working partially, the booting stop after showing msn logo and beos "beia" logo.

*)set back to 66 MHz FSB , working like charm, and set it back to 100 Mhz FSB

*)boot the machine, it boots and, hangiing on msn logo or beos "beia" logo.

*)reboot and modify the bios configuation. and save and exit.

*) reboot and, my IA-1 is do nothing.. no backlight or sign of life on screen.

I'm just suspecting the IA-1 power supply is very limited, and the best way upgrading is through AMD K6-2+ or K6-3+, which withdraw less "watts" comparing with legacy AMD K6-2

now, my IA-1 serves me as spare parts for my another IA-1. and end of story.........:)

Peace
Pete

I wouldn't count your IA-1 out just yet, although it is interesting that upping the bus speed caused linux and BeIA to fail. I've been trying to get my IA-1 to run Midori for a while, and I get the same thing - the file system fails to load. I've found that if I turn the enhanced IDE transfers off, I can actually get to a boot prompt in midori, while turning it on results in a hang like you describe. My system is likewise upgraded to a K6-III+ with 100MHz FSB, 4.5x multiplier. (I had to install a HSF to keep it cool though)

Anyway, I have been successful in getting FreeBSD to run from a Microdrive at 100MHz FSB, so I've scratched the whole Midori/Jailbait idea. The extra speed is way to nice. Now, if I could just get X working correctly...

one last thing - keep trying the power. Sometimes my unit will "hang" if I do a reset at a bad time. Same symptoms, but if I wait a while - it clears up.

Any chance you would be willing to part with the bios from your dead machine? i could use a hackable bios for my unhackble unit..

Root.
