Midori Boot issues
Midori fails to boot 3 out 4 tries

Has anyone else had a problem with Midori failing to boot from the internal flash? 3/4 of the time, it halts at "loading...." with a variable number of dots (sometimes it's 4, others 7). If I reset using the power key, it will eventually boot.

It does this both cold and warm. I tested this by leaving the unit unplugged for 24 hours, and the same thing occurred. I have a HCF installed on the CPU, and the surface temp never gets above 83degF. However, *EVERY* other OS boots correctly, every time. Only Linux fails to boot from the onboard flash.

I haven't tried booting Midori from the CF, as I don't have a 16Mb CF card, but both Windows, FreeBSD, and RH Linux 6.2 boot reliably from the microdrive. Doesn't matter what method I use to reboot - the microdrive reliably boots every time. Next try is to load Midori onto a 16Mb CF and see if it boots reliably from that, instead of the internal CF.

The only thing different on my unit from factory is the clock multiplier - I have a K6-III+ running at 400MHz.

I have seen that, and I *think* it has something to do with USB.

I noticed the same kind of thing; it wouldn't warm-boot, cold-boot, whatever. But, when I pulled all of the USB devices, it booted right up.

I have no idea why, and it might be coincidental, but give that a try.

Mine's frozen at 5 dots several times. As soon as I pointed the keyboard at it again, it worked fine. Odd.

I'll give it a try, but if that's the problem, it's pretty bad. How soon after boot do you need to replug your USB ethernet adapter?

I'm going to hit all the electronics stores looking for a 16Mb CF card - so far, it seems that the small cards are gone though.

I don't know about re-plugging... I suppose I did it after I saw that the kernel was running. It hasn't been a consistent problem (yet).

As far as your small card -- don't forget that you can partition a bigger one to be a smaller one... as I have done by accident
