Microdrive reliability?

Has anyone had any problems with their microdrives reporting SMART failures? Both of my drives have reported problems, though one has ceased. I checked their SMART registers, and both report that parameter 224 is either near or below the threshold.

I've put in a call to Iomega, now that I have two of them, but I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this.

radarman,
I have been using mine (it is an IBM labelled one) since August. I haven't had any problems, even when the temperature of the drive got so hot, that you couldn't touch it for more than 5 seconds without it burning your finger. However, that really only seemed to happen when doing an install of win98 (which took hours) or something else that really used the HD.
Are the iomega ones just rebranded IBMs or not? When/where do you see the SMART failure?

I get a warning everytime I power up. It also appears when the drive is in my PC. Just for completeness, I checked it with a SMART code reader, SmartMon. The problem ocurred after I tried to install Win98 on the disks. I did the setup and install from another disk, as I thought that might ease the load on the disk. I also had a fan on the disk - to keep the heat down. The disk never got very warm, but something sure happened to it.

As for the drive itself, it reports itself as an IBM drive to the OS and BIOS - so I believe they are just relabeled IBM disks.

Also, I discovered that Iomega doesn't support the microdrive in embedded systems. I had to admit that the drive was connected with CF-IDE adapter, as the drives apparently don't support SMART from the USB adapters. IOW - the Iomega tech new that the disk was being connected in ATA mode by the nature of the question. I'm still going to see if they will exchange it under warranty, though.
