I have begun to regret modding my first IA-1 with a heatsink and fan. Although there are certain benefits to the way I did the mod, such as being able to cool both the CF/microdrive and CPU, the noise - even with a PWM controller slowing the fan 50%, is a bit annoying. While I am certain that there has to be a quieter fan for a socket7 processor, I'm thinking it might be nice to put it back the way it was. Unfortunately, I had to nibble out a hole big enough for the heatsink to poke through, and cut a hole in the case for ventila

I'm open to a trade (for a hackable IA-1) where you get an IA-1 that is not silent, but runs at 400MHz. Also, this unit has the BIOS socketed, so you can replace the chip. I had the socket installed to play with the "unhackable" BIOS, but I haven't had much luck with it. It presently has a hackable BIOS installed in the socket. If you don't mind the noise, I think the mod is actually fairly cool. For those of you running an OS from the microdrive, the fan blows air over the CF socket. You can feel a fairly good breeze from the CF slot.

Or, I would like to buy the parts I need, or an even entire dead IA-1 if necessary, to scrounge. I'd like to spend no more than $20-$25 with shipping - but am willing to negotiate.

I suppose a first sign that you are getting old is when your computers start to seem "too loud" ;)

I have a dead IA-1 with the case and heat shield and stuff all intact... whatever you want to offer including shipping is fine. Email jacob@mayhem.com
