I havent seen BEos in a year or two, but last time i checked it out, they were moving it towards small/fast/embedded/appliance type uses. It was small, speedy and loaded with multimedia capabilities. Excellent browser/realtime/multitasking/multithreading. The last version i saw ran in a partion under windows, but i think it can be installed separately as its own freestanding beast. if nobody else has tried it or considered it, i may give it a whirl and see what i end up with.

As soon as my IA-1 gets here.

UPS needs faster trucks.

I checked in to that, but the BeOS IA distro isn't really available. You have to sign up for some sort of program..I think...*sigh*...

Now, I haven't tried just the "normal" BeOS...but I would lOVE to know. I just got my IA-1 the other day, but I won't have much time till after next week...

Anyone else have thoughts????

eh, i pulled it down last night...nothing special i guess compared to where linux has gone in the last few years. it looks like BE has been eaten by somebody else and the current distribution runs primarily as a guest booted partition under windows (you run it from windows, it takes over the system running from a large 'container' file that has the whole beos file system in it, when you exit beos the system reboots back to windows). Looks like you need to buy the pro version to get a separately partitioned beos. Not a lot of driver support for it. Looks like a good idea that didnt take off.

well, it was worth a thought and a peek.
