Hi..

1) Can anyone post step by step commands for creating a bootable jailbait cf card? i've tried everything on the board, and i get "LI" when i boot, or system files not found. I am dont want to overwrite the internal cf.

2) What is the easiest way to backup the internal cf card? (i have a 96MB external CF that boots dos on the ia-1)
i also have a spare 16mb card. i am running win98.

Thanks bball, i read it, but still no good.

As far as i understand this is a problem with the way lilo is set up (to boot from hdb rather then hdc). since i cant access my cf reader from linux, i attempted loading an array of other boot managers, but no luck there. i also tried hex editing the image file.. no luck either.

Let me as you this:

1. DOS FDISK the CF to create a single DOS partition
2. use ranish partition manager (PART.EXE) to format the partition and mark it as bootable

^^ Do these two realy make a difference, given that you are about to overwrite the cf sector by sector?. if so, here is how things went for me when i tried following your instructions:

fdisk succesfull. then did part -d 2 which reported a fat-12 partition. couldn't figuare out how to format it from ranish, unless by formating you mean changing the settings, which then triggers a format. if so, what exactly did you change?. marking it by pressing b is no problem.

3. renamed ia-linux-16mb.img to ia.img, then use DOLLY.EXE like this: dolly ia.img hd129: (Note: my CF showed as E: on my system)

done, sucessful.

4. popped the CF into the IA-1, which had been opened and shorted to allow access to the BIOS; in the BIOS, all IDE device options are enabled, and Drive D: was selected as the first drive in the boot order.

no prob.

5. plugged in the IA-1
6. the full LILO boot: prompt appeared! the default (and only boot image option) is 'hdb'

I wish..

Thanks..

yes - using ranish made the difference, along with using dolly.exe! in the former, ranish can be used to format the DOS partition, which should be FAT16 - you also need to make the partition active, and enable the boot manager... in the latter, dolly.exe is used to copy the .img file onto the CF... the steps were:

1. FDISK the CF
2. reboot windows
3. ranish the CF (format, make bootable, install boot manager)
4. dolly the CF
5. boot on the IA-1!

Thanks bball©©

My IA boots jailbait, but i fell back to the internal flash method© here are the steps i took, in case it helps©

I use linksys 10 MB USB adapter!!

Setting up networking:

1¤ get the updated pegasus©o file posted by programmer of the i-app board, and save it on a cf©
2¤ mount /mnt/hdc1 /mnt ©
3¤ copy /lib/modules/pegasus©o somehwere, then overwrite with the one on the flashdisk©
4¤ in /etc/modules add a line at the end reading "pegasus" ¥you can also comment out the kawasaki one¤©
5¤ pump -h <hostname> to set up dhcp©

Good Luck©©

Anyone managed to set up sound?

measure twice cut once :¤

i forgot to mention that before copying the files from the cf to /lib/modules its a good idea to
remount the internal cf for readwrite, by doing:

mount -o remount,rw /

when you are done, you may do

mount -o remount,ro /

also, after modifying /etc/modules reboot for the changes to take affect, or issue an
"insmod /lib/modules/pegasus©o"

typing lsmod will show you which modules are loaded© if pegasus isn't loaded, you did something wrong©

Good Luck©

or d/l this modified image:

http://www.flyingbuttmonkeys.com/mirrors/IA1/ia-linux-16mb.img

put your cf card (with pcmcia adapter, perhaps?) in your linux laptop, and type:

cat ia-linux-16mb.img > /dev/hde

(/dev/hde is the device your cf card shows up as... it may be different for you)

all done.... poof.

i tried using cat and dd to place the image on my 16MB Sandisk (and a 32MB Sandisk), but i would get the dreaded 'LI' error - this was after using both DOS and Linux disk and DOS and Linux FORMAT and mkfs... the *ONLY* method that worked for me was DOS FDISK, ranish (PART.EXE) and dolly.exe...

i'm glad you had success with the cat command...

And you used the MODIFIED jailbait image at THAT URL I MENTIONED?

The normal jailbait image wont boot because its thinks the cf card is hdb, not hdc...

yep, i have all three images from that site.. that was what flummoxed me for so long; i was using standard approaches and tools (fdisk, mkfs, cat or dd) and nothing worked...

in the end, it doesn't really matter...

now if mkcramfs will only work properly...
