Does anyone have any info on getting the current version of Linksys's WUSB11 ver2.6 or NETGEAR's MA101 WI-FI card working with the IA-1... Just got mine as to the fact my Linksys USB100M doesn't work I want to make sure I can get this thing on the net... (preferably wireless) dont care if the sys would have to boot off the external card to get this to work... (ive got a 256mb CF)

Second question... I read in the IOpener forum that people have gotten the usb zip100 working with midori and the Iopener... any chance that could be done with the IA-1?

Any help getting wi-fi working would be greatly apreciated (I work at best buy so those 2 usb adapters would be easy but willing to look for other sources for an adapter as well...)

I suggest you research which wireless cards WinCE supports and buy one of those. Obvious really.

The problem there is... well first ... Microsoft... then licensing... then actually getting wince (either 3.0 or .net) as I do not believe they even sell a boxed version (or where o' where to pirate it from, not that I condone that sort of thing... )

So I was hoping for a Linux solution but It looks as if I may have to hunt down an actual prism based wi-fi USB adapter to get this to work...

I have a Midori linux-based image with the linux wlan-ng drivers installed. These support prism chipset based 802.11b USB adapters, such as the Linksys WUSB v2.5 (what I've tested them on). If v2.6 uses this same chipset, then my image should support that. It also has kernel 2.4.20, Opera web browser, and lots of other stuff that I find useful (mostly described on http://m4i.homeip.net/ ), including the USB mass-storage driver (eg. USB Zip drives, some CF & SmartMedia card readers, etc).

BTW, I also inlcuded the kernel module that should support the Linksys USB100M adapter (rtl8150.o), but I haven't tested that.

I'm still cleaning up the image, but if you want to give it a go, you can grab it from here:

http://snarp.stanford.edu/bob/m4i/m4ia-2.3pre1.img

Be sure to check the md5sum after downloading:

http://m4i.homeip.net/m4i/pub/m4ia-2.3pre1.img.md5

cheers,
bob

Actually the WUSB11 version 2.6 uses the AT76C503A chipset from Amtel not the prism drivers.... However they do have drivers on their site Ive just heard that they are a little unstable... wanted to see if anyone was using them.... Im currently downloading Redhat 7.1 images so I can install it on a partition for a build box but I think Im going to try to find a vers 2.5 first... thanks for the image... I can at least try and play with that while Im setting up a build of my own...

Hmm, I have an IA-1 and a D-Lin DWL-120 (Prism II) USB ethernet adapter available to tinker with. Does anyone have either a released image or a test image I could use to tinker with? I know virtually nothing about *nx, but can tinker and follow directions. A "Build" seems like a huge chore with a windoze xp system.... is that a truism?

Thanks for posting the previous test image. I can always go pick one of them up if I can't get the D-Link to work. It works fine on win9x computers (townhouses are tough to run ethernet wiring around without creating trip hazards).

Well a little update from me... It turns out that I can not install Redhat 7.1 on my system... (my onboard IDE is dead and I am using a 133tx controller) so next I will try Deb 2.2r7 for "I" could not find a usb Prism II adapter and well I went ahead and got a compaq one instead based on the Atmel AT76c503A w/ Intersil 3861 radio (its actually a gemtek wl-280, it's only like 40 bucks at Best Buy w/no rebate crap) no biggie I got the CVS snapshot from Dec 9th from the sourceforge Atmel GPL project and it works fine w/Redhat 8.0 .... so HOw do I get that driver in my Midori image... Nudge, nudge -> Bob: could you add the vnetusba.* drivers to your M4ia image ... tee hee I know its the lazy way out to get someone else to do it but Im getting frusterated setting up a build machine hopefully soon I will be messing with the distro myself...

OK- I dowloaded the snapshot and built the USB drivers. I think I built them against the right kernel- but the build scripts were not as nice as the linux-wlan scripts, so I had to hack them to build against the IA kernel. But, I think I got it. That produced various modules (see /lib/modules/2.4.20/usb/usbvnet*). However, I didn't see anything called "vnetusba.*". But maybe you mistyped? The command line app is also installed (/bin/lvnet).

Anyway, you can give it a try:
http://snarp.stanford.edu/bob/m4i/m4ia-2.3pre2.img
http://snarp.stanford.edu/bob/m4i/m4ia-2.3pre2.img.md5

If you get it working, tell me how you did it so that I can share the info.

cheers,
bob

PS. I removed the modem drivers to make room.

Bob you are the man.... Unfortunatly the drivers are not... Ah well it was worth a try... I even went back and got the linksys one... and it wont work either... I think Im going to ditch this amtel driver crap and try to find a prism adapter... besides all the cool programs like kismet work with the prism drivers... thanks for you help though...

I agree that the prism devices are the way to go- the linux driver is much more mature. However, I am curious to know what happened with the Atmel drivers. Did they load? Did they recognize your device? What did they say in the log?

They loaded but seem to be missing something.., the console output was something like...
after using the insmod command to activate the driver usbvnetr.o the driver said that the device descriptor did not match ... at least it tried...
Ive got a coworker that I may be able to trade this linksys 2.6 for the 2.5 if not I found it online.. just gonna have to pay retail... ($58)
