| Actually, MSN has (or had...) a special broadband rate. It used to be $9.95/mo, though the last I heard, it was now $14.95/mo. Downside was that you couldn't dial in for more than 5 hours a month, or they charged you the full rate. (this was allowed to support periodic dial-ins for updates, and initial setup)
Even so, the white IA-1's can't do jack on the Internet without MSN. The update simply allows you to connect via a network instead of a modem - hence "ANY" ISP. It's possible that they also allowed you to dial in via another ISP as well, for those who don't have local access numbers, but it's still just a means of connecting the box to MSN. | |
