| I sure hope you aren't the guy I was bidding against the other day - that got a bit too rich for my blood. Anyway, the software on the clippers no longer have links to a functional service that I know of. They used to be hosted by Be and/or Compaq - but the clipper I have sends me to a web page announcing that no such site was found. Thankfully, the web browser still works in general, but I'm afraid that's about it. I haven't played around with it too much, but I think these links are hard coded. As it stands, practically all of the buttons at the top of the keyboard, save the volume/power button, are useless.
The "white" IA-1's use the MSN service, which is still around. If you really want one of these things for email, the white IA-1 (or at least the version 2 MSN image) is what you want. Unfortunately, there is that requirement to use MSN (ARGH...)
Now, there is a ray of hope. There is a BeIA image floating around that drops you into the desktop shell, instead of the Wagner browser. If you can load this image, you *MAY* be able to find the file that handles links, and repoint them elsewhere. In this case, any web email service would work. However, there is no native "email" support on the clippers or the MSN companions. It was always web based email hosted by somebody. | |
