Has Anyone Considered...?
Mini-ITX in an IA-1

I just started reading about the VIA EPIA-M mini-ITX motherboard. People are putting these tiny little MB's into everything (see http://www.mini-itx.com/). Anyone here considered putting one into an IA-1? I've even read that it has an LCD controller built in!

Yes,
I have thought about it. I wish it could be done. It probably could be done, but with a cost that might not make it worthwhile (unless someone is doing it for fun). First of all, it would need a new power supply as the IA-1 uses an AT and the epia uses an ATX. The epia does have the LCD controller built in, but trying to get that connected to the IA-1s screen would probably be difficult. There might be other issues but I can't think of them now.

I once took the dimensions (I don't actually have one) of the epia mobo and tried to see if it would fit in the ia-1 case. This was a while back, and I don't think it fit in completely - I think some of the board would end up being where the PS is. But since that would have to be replaced, anyways, then I guess that wouldn't be a problem.

If anyone does attempt this, please post pictures.

Perhaps not any longer. Case Outlet has a LVDS DSTN adapter for the newer ITX boards that support LCD panels directly.

Check it out: http://www.caseoutlet.com/shopexd.asp?id=309

Note, I don't work for Case Outlet, but this is the only place I've seen with the adapter - and I'm seriously considering putting an IA-1 display to work on one of these: http://www.caseoutlet.com/shopexd.asp?id=174 (Silver Travla C137)
