Midori, kernel 2.4.6 and WLAN
What 802.11b USB NICs work?

What 802.11b USB NICs have people used with Midori?
Which ones work, preferably without recompiling the kernel again (I just recompiled with the rtl8150 patch).

The thing is, I've got WWWes' Midori build kit (much modified interface/apps wise) with the Linux 2.4.6 kernel from midori.transmeta.com, I've added in the rtl8150 patch so I can use my LinkSys USB100M. I just put a customized version of this image on a coworker's machine but he'd like to go wireless and possibly set it up in the coffee shop downstairs from our office. So, we need to know which USB NICs will work. Also, I'd like to avoid having to patch the kernel again, not because it was painful (after the 1st time), but because my fiancee will kill me if I play with this thing much more (I have a choice between lovin' and kernel buildin', tough decision).

Thanks for any info.

(PS: before anybody yells for duplicate posting, I searched for midori and wireless without much in the way of conclusive results. Also, it'd be nice to build a list all in one place for reference that could be posted on www.ia1hacking.com or someplace)

Just out of curiosity, how did you modify the kernel with the WildWes Midori-3 buildkit? I downloaded it, but there didn't appear to be any source.

I'm trying to build my own custom version from his image as well, but I'm having a bit of difficulty with it. I'd like to patch it to handle the NIC on the clipper, for example. I'm also playing with the beta 3 buildkit from transmeta, but that isn't going so well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

There is some info on my site that might be of help...

You can patch newer kernels than 2.4.6, as I have done. I'm using relatively old WiFi drivers, unfortunately. I hope to fix that soon.

As far as the kernel source, you have to take care of that separately; get the kernel sources, compile a kernel, and drop it into the build kit. Don't forget to patch the relevant midori stuff.

I downloaded the source for kernel 2.4.18 (i think that was the version) from http://midori.transmeta.com
There's a great tutorial on www.ia1hacking.com at http://www.ia1hacking.com/ia1_viewarticle.php?idx=11
It will tell you how to add patches and such. Word of warning, RH8 and RH7.3 both barfed on the compile (something in the sound drivers), it took me forever to hunt down the issue (as i couldn't find anything midori specific), it has something to do with the binutils being too new, I installed RH7.1 on a laptop and it worked great from there (plus i could use my CF->PCMCIA adapter).

Hmm. I installed RedHat 7.1 on my build system. The release notes indicated there might be problems with the compiler version on RH7.1, so I updated them to the latest version, so it's possible I accidentally "upgraded" something too far. Did you modify any of the RPM's on your 7.1 system after install?
