Clipper owners: Don't do this.
How to break things

I seem to have an un hackable clipper. I can access the bios in my IA-1 but not the clipper.
One of the things I tried when attempting to access the bios was to connect a USB keyboard.
I tried many key combinations trying to get into the bios. One of them was the combination for compaq laptops, ctrl-atl-esc.
After that my clipper would not boot anymore, it just sat there with the compaq logo and started getting real hot.
I disassembled it and reset the bios jumper and now it no longer recognizes when a CF card is inserted.
I get the 162 error and then a memory count then it boots right into BeIA.
If I insert a CF card It doesn't boot twice anymore.
Well at least I got it to boot again so it's not a total doorstop.
I'll keep trying to get in somehow. There HAS to be a way.

Anyone need any pics while it is apart? Be specific.

It's possible to get an information regarding the needed parts for an onboard ethernet ?

I know that there are free spots for 2 capacitors one big-block component (mostly the same on every ethernet card) near the modem, two integrated circuits on the bottom side (a small one and a BIG one with 144 pins or so) and maybe some parts more.

If you could determine these parts and write it down - it would be great.
Maybe it's a way to add onboard ethernet for the normal IA-1.

BTW:
On my IA-1 I had the error 162 everytime because the battery was empty.
If you have the same trouble look at the voltage.

Also found out that not every CF card is able to boot because it's not recognized by the IA-1 bios!

I only get the 162 error once after I reset the bios, after that it boots with a compaq logo then directly into BeIA. No memory count, no dropping cursor, no double boot when I insert or remove a CF card. Just a plain single boot.
I have 3 cf cards, 2 with BeIA images and 1 with just dos, these all boot in my white IA-1 but not my clipper.

I will get some pics of the ethernet stuff.
Anyone know where I can post the pics?.

Later,
Carbon.

OK I have some pretty good pics of both sides of the board.
All I need i somewhere to put them.
There are 6 pics ranging from 687k to 827 k.
They are big enough to read the values on most of the SMC's.

I have one of these as well, appearently. I havent tried any bios jumpering yet.
I hope that I could get in but alt-q doesnt work either, and cant get into bios.
I cant see a smart card reader on mine either. I really had hoped to used this thing for a different
projects. Hopefully I can find a way to do so.

The smart card slot is the thin slot above the CF slot.
Smart card=smart Credit Card.
Looks like it is only useful for hacking your credit card
I'm still looking for a way in, it's well hidden.
