Looking to trade pre-hacked (white) IA-1 for a clipper
Having problems hacking your box? I'll swap you one that already has a hackable BIOS, and is running Midori_3

I've managed to accumulate three of the white IA-1's, and a single clipper. They all have Midori linux on them, and two have had new sockets installed for the BIOS. I'd like to collect a few of the clippers, largely because they have ethernet ports, so I'd be willing to trade a machine where all the heavy lifting has been done.

One note, these machines were modified for use with microdrives, and have a 5V Vcc at the CF slot. If you are planning on using flash based CF cards, I can reverse this modification (jumper back to the 3.3V VCC)

Thanks,
- radarman

Radarman,

Not that I want to trade yet or anything, but maybe...
How do you get into the BeIA desktop or such?

I remember a while back there was a BeOS image that had the startup file modified to not launch the Wagner browser. You could manually launch it, but then you were stuck, just as always. Not sure what became of that image though. The only way I know of would be to boot BeOS from the CF slot, mount the onboard Flash disk, and modify the startup files. Unfortunately, it appears that Compaq went to a great deal of trouble to keep anyone from "accidentally" dropping to the desktop.

That said, there was a great deal of discussion a while back (when the clippers became more widely known about) on this forum regarding this issue. There may be a BeOS version of the vulcan nerve pinch to force quit an application. If this exists, I would be willing to bet a USB keyboard would be required - as the IA-1 keyboards don't map the entire standard AT 101 keyboard.

Not sure if it will work in BeIA, but in regular BeOS, CTRL+ALT+DEL appears to bring up a task list, from which you can kill applications. I'll have to give this a shot tonight.

Ctrl+q is the way to quit wagner and get to the BeOS desktop.
Unfortunately this is disabled in production images, but try it anyway.
I am working on finding an alternative.
Once you get to the desktop it is simple to remap the links and special buttons.
