I have the same situation. Mine is just sitting in the corner waiting for some brillant discover to clear the cobwebs off the thing. I was think about pulling out the guts and putting in an ITX board but the cabling for the power and monitor needs to be decoded so I can make them interface.
Tired but canit seem to get past the blue screen.

RE:IA-2 Should I just throw it away? (modified 0 times)
Hello...this is my first post on this board. I found it during a search for information on the IA-2.
I recently bought an IA-2 out of curiosity and a need for another hobby project. I'm itching to start hacking this IA-2 but would like to get a thread on everyones knowledge/experience/successes/failures with the IA-2 before I proceed. I've already ripped it apart and will take pics of everything before the hacking begins. If interest is big enough (say 3 or 4 people) I would be willing to set up a website (to include a phpBB) on my host dedicated specifically to hacking the IA-2.
Seems like there is little information on the IA-2 were as the IA-1 has plenty. Since starting the search for IA-2 information I have yet to see some state the IA-2 is not hackable. I like a challenge but could probably use some help if I hit a wall. Would prefer to have a community of IA-2 hackers collectively sharing information with each other. If you're interested in participating in such an environment e-mail me: info@networkystuff.com

Do a search for IA-2. I did awhile back when I got an IA-2 and at that time, the consensus was that it couldn't be hacked. I am not holding out any luck for upgrading the machince. Hope to change over the mobo to an ITX one maybe but that's not really hacking. Just going to change it into an all-in-one job. Hard part will be the monitor and other sort of cables.
Have an I-Opener and Virgin appliance that's gathering dust too and I would rather get them working.

jailbait linux or some small linux distro i think that the bios would had to be reflashed there is a linux bios out there i have yet to figure out how to replace the embed os there is a open ide port how ever pluging in a hard drive in the small open plug results in the machine not powering up try using power right off of the mbo molex plug as for replaceing the mbo the smallest boards are itx from via and the cheapeist one is around $80.00 addtionally you can buy a curcit board that allows for an external power supply but you then have to figure out the video setting from the monitor

These are designed to use flash memory, not a harddrive (won't even boot from one). Get a compact flash adapter and plug it into the ide header, then you can get a BeIA image file from an IA-1 or Clipper and put on a CF card. With that installed, your IA-2 should bypass the DOC and boot BeIA. There is a project in the works that should bring a lot of use back to these now that they've been abandoned by Compaq. I'll post a notice here when most of the tinkering on it is done.
Midori would work as well I suppose, just don't use it myself.
