A couple years ago, I bought an IA-1 for my mother and she uses it for e-mail and web surfing. She loves it - not crazy about MSN, but thinks the machine it great - right size, small color screen etc.
In the meantime, I have moved outside the USA to the UK.
Now MSN is discontinuing the compaq IA-1 support. She wants to keep the machine and continue to use it for e-mail and web surfing.
I want to upgrade her machine to a basic windows or linux machine. It would be simple to do it if I was still in the USA - I would borrow the machine for a few weeks then just return it working. I need to put together a SCAN DISK card that I can be assured will likely work the first time and mail it to her. Then make simple modes for dailup account info, account access info etc with her over the phone.
I was hoping I could get a working image someone and some simple instructions. She will be using it in dialup with the exiting modem and a USB mouse - everything else is standard. I would be making the image from a windows machine running 2000. Hope someone can help. stuart woods
