Is there a IA1 dist that allows for connection to a terminal server? I have tried the VNC client and it doesnt seem to work very well. or is there anything such as USB drivers for dos for a possible remoteboot skipping linux alltogether.

There is an RDP client for connecting directly to the remote desktop service available in XP. You'll want the latest CVS pull, and you'll need to specify on the command line to use high color and pull sound over to the iPaq.
