WUSB11 on IA1

Alright so this whole IA1 thing has been a big Linux learning experience for me and I'm loving it. Just wanted to know if anyone here has had success with the Linksys WUSB11 (i'm pretty sure it's a 2.6 Atlan because it really doesnt want to recognize it). I'm using the newest m4ia image (Midori) at the moment but im willing to try pretty much anything to get this to work. I just want to use this for an instant messaging terminal.

Thanks in advance.

FUBAR is F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition. I believe so far only 2.5 will work on the newer Midori Builds.

So far I have the Amtel modules compiled and installed, and iwconfig instaled on one of my IA1s. I still need to change a script somewhere to get it to work right but dmesg shows the new drivers loaded for the 2.8 wusb11. As soon as I get it all working I will post the new image.

m4ai image with at76c503/505 drivers and iwconfig is kind of done. You can dl it from my server at http://cpete.com/ia1/
All the parts are there but you still need to modprobe the modules and then use iwconfig to configure wlan0. I still don't have it working 100% because the modules need to be loaded before the device is plugged in. Once I have it configured to do this in the right order, and write a script to configure the device on boot/hotplug, I will dd it back to a cf card and upload it to the server. Right now it works, but requires a little hacking on each boot to get it configured right.

Im pretty new at this and i got the thing at wlan0 but i dont know what else im suppose to do, is there a place where i can find out how to configure my wlan0 with iwconfig like what am i supossed to set each item as and how to setup the midori network settings. I mean i can see in "dmesg" that i have a mac adress and stuff but having trouble. Hope to hear more from you CP... thx for the info so far and keep up the good work... btw i have a WUSB11 with the Amtel AT78C503

my guess is:

1) you don't have a default gateway configured
2) dns is not working properly.

try:

netstat -rn

and see if there's an entry like
Destination Gateway
0.0.0.0 <your router IP>

if there is no 0.0.0.0 destination or the router ip is wrong, you are not able to go outside.

Sorry I haven't checked here in awhile. I am using the DWL 122 for now, but will get back to the WUSB11 ver 2.8 later. As for your routing problem, you need to configure it using ifconfig. something like:

# ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.20 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1

of course you should use your own network info and not mine unless you happen to be on my network.

when i type in
# ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.20 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
in x-term it doesnt work it make the ipaddress of wlan0 to 192.168.1.1 when i put gateway in... i mean i have wireless on every other system in my house and i know it can reach internet but just not on the IA... i mean i can ping the network, i can mount a partition from my windows system on the IA but i just can surf the web except for the ROUTER CONFIGURATION page.... i have a Linksys WRT54G router and its set on normal use, i have a hacked bios but that has nothing to do with the internet not working is there anything i can try to get this working? i would really like to get this amtel chipset to work.. hopefully someone can figure it out and another thing I very happy that you have replied and that kenboo replyed lets keep up the work with our IA1 hahah hopefully i can get mines to work.. :D

Chicago_NinjA,
I am assuming that 192.168.1.1 is your default gateway... Works for your windows box. You can try:
# route add default gateway 192.168.1.1

If that won't work, send me the output from:

# route

No reason why it shouldn't work.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the Midori image m4ia-2.3pre1.img or m4ia-2.3pre2.img? I can access the URL http://m4i.homeip.net/m4i/pub/images/ but get a "Access forbidden!" error when I try to dl the image. I'd like to use the WUSB11 with my IA1

Thx
