beginner IA-1 questions
questions about keyboard, bios, CF

I found an IA-1 in the trash -- no keyboard or CF card but otherwise seems OK.
I'd like to load linux on it.

I have a few questions:

(1) Can I use a USB keyboard? Or a standard wireless infrared keyboard?
(2) Can it boot from a USB Pen Drive?
(3) I assume I can put an arbitrary size CF card into it. Is this right?
Will it work with/recognize a 128 or 256 MB CF card?
(4) I opened it up and shorted the bios reset pin, then verified that
it did a memory check on power-up. However since I have no keyboard
I couldn't interrupt it. Does the bios reset pin need to be shorted
again? And is there a setting that in the future allows me to drop
into the BIOS from the keyboard whenever I want to?
(5) Is the internal modem supported under linux? I am thinking of setting it
up for my mother-in-law, who has a dial-up ISP.

Thanks in advance!

Bruce

I wonder if a USB keyboard would work better with Midori than the Compaq IR keyboard? That is, would function keys work?

I used 256mb CF to flash my IA1 to Midori. Also use wired USB nic.

on my midori version (www'es with my modifications), all the function key of the IR keyboard are
correctly mapped to the key upper the keyboard (with differents pictures like shopping, email ...)

I never have been connect an usb keyboard, but it can cause big problems if you try to make
some keyboard combination during boot ...

I have m4ia-2.3pre1, it is most recent and a year old now. What do you have? Do you reckon that my keyboard is different? I had assumed that no one had working F keys.

http://www.ia1hacking.com/ia1_viewarticle.php?idx=11
instruction to build or rebuild your image, but I never build succefully an image file with this method

http://www.ia1hacking.com/ia1_download.php?category=linux&file_idx=16
for the WWWE image file

http://www.ia1hacking.com/ia1_download.php?category=linux&file_idx=17
development kit for WWWES

I build mine but I can send it to you because I use a Clipper (an IA-1 with 32Mo flash drive)
I works actually (when I've enough time) to build another image for my second IA (standart white one) to use it as a
radio alarm
