(This is a cross post from BREAKING NEWS)

Got a letter in the mail today from MSN. Effective 12/31/01 they are discontinuing support of the eMachines and Vestel MSN Companions (what the heck is a Vestel?). Call them, they'll send you an IA-1 for free.

Kewl.. Called, it'll be here in 8-10 days. Nice!

To see the letter, go to http://briefcase.yahoo.com/lonnypaul and check out the MSN Companion folder, the scan of the letter is in there.

They give you six months free with it (see http://msnc.msn.com/v2/companion/buyersguide_serviceplans.asp ).
They started billing me after three months - and I've had to call them several times (they are IDIOTS).

Can you get it free for just calling....... I doubt it.

It's on your account. I got a letter in the mail. I don't think it's a free for all offer. It's only for people who have the eMachines and Vestel MSN Companions with existing accounts.

How did they verify that you had MSN Companion on one of the two machines, and NOT on a IA-1? I don't recall being asked specifically what device I was using when I signed up for my MSN Companion account for my IA-1.
