Hi, my moms 1a=1 went out a few week ago while still under warranty so compaq replaced it with much reluctance. since the msn o/s part of the system is no longer available it doesn't work. can this unit be hooked up to a pc and used as a monitor with the 1a-1 keyboard? if so do i use straight usb cable with male-male connectors or a usb to usb laplink adapter. is there anyway otherwise to use this new 1a-1? we will be using dial up access on it..i know how to fix, upgrade, work on pc's but not this 1a-1 appliance. thks alot for any help !animalresqr

with a bit of a hack you can replace the os with a linux verion called jail bait or a samll linux os if you do a search on this bbs under compaqw ia2 there are a few things you can do on is to use the compaq as a thin cliet a teminal thru the usb port and log into a nother computer remotly

I have been able to reconfigure at a modest cost my I-Appliance to run Windows98 and access the internet via a wireless usb unit. I needed to use a 256M Compact Plash card to hold the windows operating system but given the price of things today, this is a neat adaptation of older technology.
