Bloop, Ranman thanks for the info on formatting a CF, but I don't have a 98 PC so I went with the hardware solution.

PCEngines.com sells an IDE to CF adapter for $20 that just rocks (http://www.pcengines.com/cflash.htm). It doesn't matter what OS your using, the CF card appears as an IDE drive to the BIOS. Format, copy, dolly, etc. all work flawlessly and without the hassles of USB. It's also very fast, which helps with those frequent format-copy-boot-test cycles.
