Companion as MythTV Frontend?

I have been using my companion now for some time but it becomming more or less a 'calendar' or 'web database' frontend for my home network. Not too much activity. But I still keep it around because I like this little thing...
I have been reading a lot now about MythTV and I am probably going this route with one of my other machines. I have a server running right now in the closet that I can easily convert to accept the hardware for a MythTV backend. I don't want to place this server close to the TV as it is not esthetic nor quite enough to convince my better half. While I was reading on the MythTV websites it struck me - maybe my little companion could be the right tool to do this. Long story short ...

... has anyone a working configuration where the companion is the front end for a MythTV network?

Hmm. If you mean using it as an overgrown remote control - I'd say you have a good chance. If you mean video playback, well - I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'm actually planning on doing something very similar with mine - though it will be a front end to a home automation system, not MythTV.

It's actually a great machine for front ends, due to its high SAF (spouse approval factor) - but the combination of DSTN screen, low end AMD K6 processor, and USB ethernet make it a poor candidate for anything that requires much processing.

Has anyone done anything like this? I also would like to put my ia-1 to use instead of sitting in the closet with my mythtv box, as a frontend (basically like a remote) and not for veiwing video. If you have could you give me some pointers plx thx!

Well, I've used mine under Midori as an agent for mythweb with no problem to manage recordings etc for mythtv. Plus I've used it to ssh into the mythbox to do maintenance before too and it works OK for that. Now that I have DSL linux on a microdrive, I can even ssh -X into the myth box and run the mythfrontend program for management purposes.
