Is anyone still working on a custom CE?

I was just checking to see if anyone out there is still working on a custom version of windows CE to run on the IA-1. I'm glad to see that some have finally gotten linux to run with sound and with net but I'm still interested in trying CE also. I've been moving and haven't been able to spend anytime with mine but next week I'm getting set back up and I'm ready to play around with what ever options are available to me.

Has someone got sound to work with Jailbait on the IA-1? If so, could you repost how you did it or direct me to another post as to how this is done? Thanks.

i've got WinCE 3.0 booting via LOADCEPC.EXE from DOS. it's pretty ugly, though, at 640*480, and no functional mouse; but, it executes perfectly, otherwise. now, it's time to find and incorporate some CE video, mouse, and sound drivers, or maybe hack them out of the default nk*.bin files with a hex editor... more information as it develops...

finding Windoze CE drivers is loads worse than 9x/ME/NT/2K/XP. since all the CE devices are proprietary, they develop their own proprietary drivers, or purchase them from CE development companies. hence, the reason folks love Linux so much i can get Trident CyberBlade i7 video drivers for just about any platform out there, merely by searching the web. for CE???? fuhgeddaboutit funny how Compaq uses this chip so much in their laptop/notebook systems, and the Linux XFree folks had so much trouble getting it working. no wonder Compaq stuck with it in the IA-1. the evil empire, indeed.

Wouldn't it be possible to copy the MSN OS to a compact flash card or hard drive and then reverse engineer it to remove the proprietary GUI and replace it with the standard WIN CE interface? Once this was done the card could be loaded back into the Companion and the flash card onboard could be reloaded with the new setup. This would retain the sound drivers and other files needed to access various functions and give you a basic CE machine to use for picture display or a MP3 player like I want. Maybe this has been tried and I'm just talking out my ass here but seems doable. Anyone have an idea on doing this? Love to use my 1A for more than a table decoration!!!!
