I got my IA-1 today. opened it up and reset the bio's. When I hit the compaq key it gives me the keyboard error. I have to hit a key then goes to a screen asking for what language I want to use and locks up. What am I doing wrong???????

Ok I put the thing back together and it decided to stop crashing. I was finally able to get into the bio's and change it.

I thought these things had 16 meg of ram. Mine is coming up with 32 -2 meg for video.

I seem to have the same problem. I can get into the bios with no problem but then the keyboard doesn't work. I even bought a USB keyboard in the hope it would be recognized but no luck. The IR keyboard works fine when in the MSN software but doesn't work at all when the bios screen appears. I've taken it apart and put it back together but no change. I've reset the bios a number of times but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Timing is everything in getting to the BIOS changes on these; I've done three and each has its own "quirks." Don't press the Compaq / F-10 key until after the first cursor-drop on bootup or you'll get an error, but if you wait too long it'll move on without you. (Also- remember it's just the Compaq key; I rezapped my first IA-1 three times because I thought I needed a key *combination* to get to the BIOS.)

When you get it right you'll get the language selector; use the up-down arrows to change if you need to, then Enter. That should get you to the main BIOS menu. Use Enter to select, Compaq / F-10 to confirm, and Cancel / Esc to back out. You may have to do this *twice* after inserting a CF card -- once to get the IA1 to recognize the CF, and the second to get it to boot from it.

Each of my IA-1s has been reflashed at least twice, so far with no problems.

Thanks for the info but I have no problem actually getting into the bios. As you say, by hitting the Compaq key just after the cursor jumps gets me there every time. However, when the bios language screen appears the keyboard just stops working. Very frustrating especially since I've got everything I need for an upgrade (IDE adapter, 2.5" drive, new CPU and fan).
