I have found a IBM wireless LAN Entry Access Point Hub model 8227 with 2 matching PCMCIA network cards for about $150.

Does anyone know if this works on the CF-01 and if this is a good price.

Thanks

Tony

There are also a bunch of Acer 2.4 Ghz PCMCIA/ISA Wireless Network Kits on ebay. Do these work?

I am using Acer 2.4 Ghz PCMCIA/ISA Wireless Network Kits now, it works, but it is only 1Mbps, no Win2K driver, and not the 802.11b standard. I bought it from OnSale.com for only $18 two months ago, can't complain. I need another wireless network card for my 1200, but can't get that price anymore. I try to resist buying 802.11b Access Point or PC cards now, though the price drops a lot recently. This summer 802.11a products are coming, at that time the price for 802.11b products will drop more, then I can decide to use 802.11a or 802.11b.

If you notice, they are dumping LeArtery Wireless LAN 11Mbps PCMCIA Cards on eBay and uBid. You can get it for $35 on uBid(if unlucky like me, got 2 last night :(). Of course, I have to find a cheap Air Point station(don't like the peer-to-peer solution) now.

I guess the IBM kit is this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1248314212

It comes with 2 PC cards, but you need to plug one to the hub, and it doesn't mention the speed and what standard it uses and no NT/Win2000 driver. I guess it is not 802.11b.

But it is funny, in the description it says:
- Surf the internet from the toilet, or the deck, or anywhere!

YA! It is the wireless all about!

At $150, I'd say it's a bad deal. Don't get me wrong, I own & used to use one of these setups. They're faster than dial-up and slower than DSL. The range is acceptable, but not great. The hardest thing is that they must be booted from some other computer that is on the ethernet end that can be booted to DOS, with dos drivers for its ethernet card so it can run the lantastic software to download the boot image for the hub. This must be done every time the hub looses power.

I am now running an 802.ll setup which is much faster, goes much farther and that I paid less than $l50 for.
