Here's a quote from a bbs posting on the Panasonic mystery card:
Greets all - Just wanted to share with you some info
about an inexpensive solution i found and took advantage
of on the internet if one is looking for digital audio
capabilities for an older pc notebook (33mhz and faster)
that does not have integrated sound.
I found a store on yahoo shopping (marine park superbuys)
that has in stock the panasonic kxl-d20 multimedia
sound kit.
it includes:
2 mini speakers
sound/cdrom pcmcia card
(incidentally its a scsi interface too)
breakout box and scsi cable integrated
(breakout box is 1/8" stereo jacks with
mic, line in and phones/lineout)
batteries for the speakers
clip on mic
2 floppies for the drivers (audio and scsi)
supports win 3.1/95 (and i imagine 98 too with the 95 drivers)
dunno about dos yet.. may play around with that..
i do not know the amount of these things that marine park
has in stock, but if interested i wouldnt waste time
snagging one..
oh, did i mention the price is $49???
the audio is the ESS AudioDrive system...
I will warn you, its a little noisy.. but that's not
unusual for laptop/notebook sound from what i've heard
if you want to call them directly, their customer support
number is 1.800.360.1722
i think you can order them through that number..
I ordered it online... it came ups..
hope this is of some interest...
happy new years and all..
