I'm in dire need of an image of the original CF-01 hard drive. I stupidly didn't make one myself when I tried an upgrade. Any format would be good, ghost, etc. I have a DSL connection so speed is not a problem. Please help!!

I have an original CF-01 Ghost Image if you would like please write to me at Pcalleros@ameritech.net. First thing
that I did when I purchased mine was to get an image done with Ghost. Before even going to setup...

PeteC, the only way I can think to image the drive prior to setup would be to pull the drive and connect it to another PC. Is that what you did, or is there another way to do it?

Actually if you run Partition Magic and break the original drive into 2 pieces you can then use ghost to copy the first partition to the second and then run setup and transfer the file over the network.

This is what I had to do when I killed my initial w95 image through too much tweaking and hacking.

And just how do you this this without running Setup???

I assume (again) that you have to pull the drive & installed to an IDE-equipped PC?

laserfan: I believe that you can do it by booting from the floppy. Then you can run floppy versions of PM and Ghost. I haven't tried this myself. I always go through the effort to get the "extra virgin" image by pulling the harddrive. After I do the initial setup I repartition and create a backup image on the D drive. This saves the effort of having to answer the setup questions again and applying my favorite tweaks. I've never had to go back to the virgin image, but it is nice knowing that it is there.

Sorry to have been so unclear but yes I meant that you can run the floppy versions of PM and Ghost.

While in the docking station I connected my parallel portable HD, loaded drivers with floppy and then Ghosted image to
the external drive before booting up the first time. This image is about 180 megs. The
issue of where to put it to download came up a few months ago and I tried breaking it up into 20 meg chunks but could not upload all of them to one of the available free drives out there on the net. If you have a public accessible drive to FTP the image to I will or again if you like just write me and will send you a copy.

>I connected my parallel portable HD...

OK, this explains it but I don't have one of these. Maybe I can use pcAnywhere with a parallel cable and boot from floppy to achieve a similar result.

What I am trying to do is... I have a CF-01 that I have set-up the way I want it, which includes Glitch a 2nd partition 'D' drive that I've put the 'C' image on (great minds think alike!), and now I want to take the 'C' image and put it on another CF-01. I guess since my C image is a PowerQuest .pqi file, I am limited to pulling the drive and xsferring it outside of the CF-01 on a desktop PC(I don't believe that Drive Image allows a restore over the parallel port). But I am trying to figure out how to do this more easily in the future as it is likely I will have to do this again w/another CF-01...

Yes my new CF-01 drive (6 Gig) is also divided into two partitions of which I ghosted the completed (98SE) image
to the D-Drive. You can plug in a wireless NIC and transfer the Ghost image via your Network also. For the long term though it would be of benefit to burn an image to a CD then purchase an external parallel CD-Drive and use that with
all of your CF-01's. I ended up purchasing an old Zenith external CD-Rom drive with built in audio which serves for
a similar purpose.

PeteC? Glitch?

Pete, your ameritech email bounced. I'd like to get a copy of your original ghost image of the CF-01 drive to restore my unit (maybe in preparation for selling it if I need to). Would you mind emailing me at kunichika_mark@hotmail.com? I have an ftp server that you could use to transfer the image.

Thanks,
lens
