I know I'm not supposed to post e-bay listings on here but
I found a device that is the industrial ruggedized version of the cf-01. actually two. made by intermec - one has an amd x-5 133, 32mb, 1 gig. and one has a pentium 120, 32mb, 1.6gig, 8.4 Active Matrix Color VGA Screen . I contacted the seller and he has a bunch of each, and wants 300 for the 133 model. I don't know how much for the 120.
amd 133 - http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&item=1229795209
pentium 120 - http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1229795433

Interesting unit, but I think what makes the Cf-01 so versatile is it's docking bay. Not sure if these units have that feature. Plus, panasonic is a major player in the electronics biz, not sure about Intermec, since they mostly make bar code scanners and printers? Maybe someone has more info on these.

The Norands were mentioned on the ePods bbs a while back - it was also sold under another name Sharp Capernicus, I think?). I looked into them at the time. I had not heard of a new supply of these; indeed the eBay listing does not state that they are new and does say that they are sold "as-is" although working.

This is not really a "CF-01 killer," but perhaps another alternative. The units are a good 50% heavier than the ePods and the Cf-01, as well as larger. The 6622 is roughly comparable in specs to the Panasonic, better in some areas (has sound built-in) worse in others (no full-featured docking station; rather, a stand). The more expensive one is a true Pentium, and has 2 battery packs. (Interestingly, its specs say it has 16 mb of RAM, but the eBay ad says 32.) This one might offer a worthwhile trade-off compared to the CF-01, as its Pentium processor does give it something to justify its larger size/extra weight. The cheaper one seems to offer little to justify that sacrifice, particularly if it is also not new and sold "as-is."

I'd call them worthy contenders, perhaps, but I think "CF-01 killer" would be quite an exaggeration.

Actually, re-reading the ad more carefully, it is clear that these are indeed used units - Phrases like "still has the original software installed" and "tested and works fine." These are industrial units like the Panasonic, so "used" in this case probably means relatively hard use "out in the field," not just sitting on the kitchen counter in someone's home.
