I found a source for new extra batteries for the CF-01. They want $144 each for them, which is at their cost. I am going to try to negotiate it down to something more reasonable next week. What do you think is reasonable?
reasonable would be less than we can build them ourselves for...
It was estimated that $40 would build us a new LiON battery pack that lasts 50% longer than the stock one.
If the packs are relatively easy to make, nobody will want to pay anything near $100 for one. Well I wouldn't anyway. I'd say $50 would be my max, and even then I'd go with the self-made ones if they are possible.
Realistically you can't build one for $40. It will take a case the will fit the space, matching connectors and possibly internal electronics as well (check some of the we site pics). You can upgrade a current battery for around $26 but that only works if you have a battery to disassemble and replace the cells.
Actually if you check the prices for LiIon batteries for notebook computers you will see that their $144 is not out of line.
What we need to do is convince them that there isn't really much market for these batteries anymore and get them to see them as surplus and price them accordingly. I don't see them getting much less than $60-$80 though. Maybe they would do a bulk deal to someone like our benefactor busdepot did with the computer itself.
Hmmm... I am now waiting for my unit to come in. I will have to take a look more on this whole battery thing.
I have a cousin that does a lot of AutoCad and build models for all sorts of people, maybe I will have him build me a case. Will et you guys know if anything turns up.
