I'm using a Linksys WPC11 here and it works just dandy... but it does seem to suck the battery down quickly.

bobs-- what's the problem exactly? Is the compaq card one of the new 802.11b cards? I believe they're all based on the Intersil Prism II chip (it's kind of amusing actually -- a number (all?) of these cards use nearly identical drivers and config. utils, any price difference among them is all about the name they slap on it one would assume). The Linksys is Intersil-based and it's working. If the compaq is an Intersil-based card, then you can probably eliminate hardware incompatibility (given that the thing works at all). Have you tested the card in another computer yet? Are you using an access point or are you doing AdHoc?

They are not all the same as I just found out . I picked up a couple d-Link dwl-650 cards and while they are intersil prism based cards they require cardbus slots. Pretty much rules out half my machines, bummer. If course the d-Link cards are $30 cheaper than the Linksys cards.

Actually I remember reading about a guy getting some of these cards to work in a casio e-125 via a cf-pcmcia adaptor. He did research and there are at least two chipsets that are being used, the intersil prism and something else. I can't remember who made the other chipset though.

If it helps I do have my old ibm lan entry cards working on the cf-01. Work great at a blinding 300kbs or so, with a stiff tailwind, downhill ...

The problem is the driver dose not load and the Light is lite all the time.
No errors but in system/devices shows a ? with no driver loaded I have tried to reload driver but still have the same problem.

The card worked in the epod with no problems. I may be abe to get a SMC card to try but I think it may have the same problem

I do not have any problems with the driver. Once that you have updated with the newest Orinoco (sp?) firmware you cannot use the old WaveLan drivers. In fact if u have already used a Wavelan driver you
will have to also clean the registry.

The SMC PCMCIA card worked with no problems. Not sure why the Compaq one did not work.

Thanks for all the input.

I'm having trouble myself. I can get power to the Linksys wireless card but the device manager tells me that I have a device failure and to try changing the driver for the device. I've done that but no help.

Any ideas here would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Was there ever a resolution to some of these problems. I just received my Linksys card today, which I am currently using in my IBM laptop with Win2000.

When I insert the card into the CF-01, it detects it and installs fine. Only the power light comes on. The Tx/Rx does not blink. When I go to system, it has a ? to with the wireless card and state that it's not installed properly. I had to add the TCP/IP protcol and on the Linksys card properties, it showed that it has binded with the added protcol.

Now when I tried to run winipcfg, I get a fatal error. I read somewhere on the web stating that I should tried to recover the Winsock2. But I only see a winsock.dll. Am I missing some files?

Someone help...

Thanks

When I tried to install the Linksys card on a CF-01 it took 3 attempts. First two times the drivers seemed to install but the card was not recognized. So I uninstalled and reinstalled, for lack of a better idea. Third time it worked like a charm. Didn't do anything different that I know of.

Actually saw the Compaq 802.11b's and they're Lucent based cards, you might try the Orinoco drivers.

Has anyone been able to get the Hawking WE110P to work on the CF-01?
Repeated attempts, on the original Win95, complete normally, but then device mgr sez no good, try again.
