Any recommendations for a small footprint wired (or wireless) keyboard for the CF-01?

Some keyboards I have been looking at:
http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/viewproduct.asp?ProductID=ACC-PWK
http://www.cyberguys.com Item# 138 0155
http://12.46.196.199/cgi-bin/prodinfo?sn=34351634588439&cd=KQ99P

Thanks

The 3 you list are as good a group as I have seen, but I'd like to hear from some mini keyboard owners of their experiences.
I'm not sure wireless makes sense given the small screen size of the CF-1. I have not been pleased with any of the integrated pointers I have used on mini boards, most take 2 hands to use. A normal mouse should be fine since it would seemingly only be used when docked anyway.
The only reasonably priced options I've seen besides the ones you list are on Ebay. Search for "Cherry Keyboard" They make the mini board in black too, but I have not found a cheap one. The Happy Hacking Lite board is also available in black, but its not cheap.

Maybe we can work out a group discount.

Check out other keyboards too; not just mini. If prices are too high, at least it will give you an idea of many that are available. Then you have a good base for searching on auction sites. BTW.... I have the HappyHacker Lite. Size is great but the keys seem "loose"; not a tight keyboard. I, also, have a CQ that is just a little larger than the HH (top to bottom). I like it a bunch more. I haven't been able to locate that particular brand but saw some that resembled it at above sight. It has more of a feel of a top notch, very high quality, notebook keyboard. I purchased it at Fry's for around $30-$40US but they haven't had any more several times I check in past couple months.

I, also, have a TI industrial, micro keyboard. It is a super backlighted little dude BUT keys and spacing are too small for regular "typing" use. It is very expensive retail but can be found occasionally on eBay. I would not recommend this for everyday use.

Can anyone suggest why the iOpener keyboard with integral mouse does not work in the CF-01's mouse/keyboard port? Note I mean the CF-01 itself, undocked. At first I thought maybe a driver was needed (my CF-01 has Win98SE aboard) and fiddled with that a bit, but then I realized my IO also has W98 and plugged-it back to the IO and it works fine (the integral mouse that is) with the standard drivers, and the Mouse cpl even allows tweaking of the IO touchpad's speed/response.

Apparently the connections/connectors are different between the IO and CF-01? Seems like the IO unit should work; might make a nice travel keyboard/mouse combo w/the CF-01.

laserfan: I think that the i-Opener keyboard is wired in a nonstandard way. When you use a keyboard/mouse splitter to connect a regular keyboard & mouse to the i-Opener you need to plug the keyboard in the mouse connector and the mouse in the keyboard connector. It sould be pretty easy to make a adapter that would let the i-Opener keyboard attach to the CF-01. I don't know what pins need to be swapped. I would guess that you could find this info on the i-Opener part of the site. HTH.

I purchased the Dauphin because of its size. I purchased a PS-2 splitter with a small hand held roller ball. It functions OK. Makes for a compact easy to store and move setup. The Dauphin keyboard is small and kind of awkward to use but functions well. Currently my CF-01 has been updated to the following:

- Windows 95 (as originally installed)
- 5.1 Meg HD (set up for fat-32 to two partitions)
- Memory upgraded to 40 megs (Using Scitech Video display)
- Pen Keyboard is STG demo (which works better than Pen Services)
- Lucent Bronze wireless card
- Portable GPS using Delorme software
- External Panasonic Sound PCMCIA combo/SCSI card (works well)

This thread is a little stale and many more of us have gotten our CF-01s since. Is anyone using a decent small footprint keyboard?
Are you also using a mouse with the keyboard, or are you using a keyboard integrated with a pointer similar to notebooks?

I have been very pleased with the "Mini-touch" keyboard/touchpad shown at this site: http://www.fentek-ind.com/minikb.htm#kbmttp Though I got it on ebay where if you search "mini keyboard" you will generally find them on sale in black for less. It has a PS2 connection for the keyboard, but a serial cable for the touchpad (with a serial to PS2 adaptor). This is convenient both with the undocked CF-01 and the Stylistic 1200 which lack dual PS-2 ports undocked.

Groch,

Is it possible to also use this mini-keyboard with an ePods which has a serial and USB ports, but no PS-2 port?

Unfortunately No, I have not heard of anything but a USB keyboard being used with an Epods.

Did I type in "no?" I meant to type in, "Of course", simply use a USB to PS2 Adaptor :)

I have not tried it, though that would be a lot of adaptors strung up on the mouse side. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and let you know.

I recommend this keyboard cause the keys are not "laptop" keys; the have the full size key feel to them (if you know what I mean). The size isnt too bad, either.
