MP3Decode and pcmcia audio?
MP3Decode and pcmcia audio?

The CF-01 will go nicely in my home entertainment system, if it can decode mp3's respectably. I assume it will; the epods does (but networking and audio are limited).

Of course, the panasonic requires a pcmcia audio card. Didn't trip across any at ebay, and the cheapest I could find retail was $84. Also, I believe I read that the old Mediavision cards won't run under win95+.

Any feedback or ideas?

This is my first post. Have been following this board since the Iopener broke. This board has been great. Followed instructions to crack the web surfer, but hated its limitations. Hacked an epods, and it is a dream with terminal server. Really looking forward to seeing the panasonic. Thank you contributors.

I found a how-to that tells you how to get the mediavision card to work under win95. Still, the card appears to be somewhat expensive and we certainly need a better solution if this is going to be a car mp3 player (like I plan). The how-to is located at http://www.halted.com/online/mediavis.htm

I think you don't have to use the little mono speaker unit as it says there is a stereo out jack.
The price at retail places are about 71-80 bucks. I

I had one of these a long time ago, and if i remember correctly, the stereo headphone jack is located on the little speaker, so you would still have to attach that to the card. I wish it was just s jack built into the side of the card...

hello

as i see by the specs there is a serial port on the cf-01
and there is a product i forgot the name of which decodes mp3's through the serial port
without the need for a soundcard and it comes with a winamp plugin so you can use that with it.

i cant remember the name but maybe someone else on the board does??

http://lp3music.com/

this is the closest thing that i can find... it connects to the parallel port though... it would only work if its in the docking station.

well, I found my PCMCIA sound card and I ordered a CF-01 today, so hopefully sometime next week I can let you know how good it is at playing MP3's.

Found a listing of PCMCIA audio cards from Access Micro's old website. I believe they don't carry any of the listed items any longer, but I figure I'll post it here anyway.
