Help with Proxim Symphony Wireless HomeRF PC Card
How to install Proxim Symphony Wireless HomeRF PC Card

Has anyone installed the Proxim Wireless HomeRF PC Card in the CF-01? I tried Proxim tech support with no success.

Do I need to upgrade to Win98?

Any help would be appreciated. Love this little machine, but I need to use wireless networking in order to use as a home automation device.

Thanks,
scoggd

I just installed a Symphony PC card which is about the same thing, made by proxim. No problems so far. I'm still using W95. Just make sure you don't let windows look for the driver when you first boot up, hit cancel and then run setup from the cd.Hope this helps.

Tried that many times with no luck. This is the Symphony HomeRF PC Card (443X) instead of the Symphony PC Card (4402). Proxim tech support believes either card should work.

Also updated pc card services as suggested by another thread.

Anymore ideas, anyone?

What seems to be the problem? I'm currently wirelessly reading & responding to this from my CF-01 via a pair of Wavelan cards (one in the CF-01 and one in an old laptop running W/98 internet connection sharing) How were you planning to connect yours?

I have a CF-01 with a Proxim Symphony Cordless PC Card (Win95) and a Proxim Symphony Cordless USB adapter plugged into my desktop (Win98). Not quite the same as you but I had a few problems that Proxim couldn't help with.

This is what I found...

Don't let windows install drivers. Download the latest from the Proxim website and follow their instructions.

Don't use the 'quick logon' feature found in Network Properties / Client for Microsoft Networks. Use the 'Logon and restore network connections' instead. If I did not do this I could never see the other computers drives, although I could see the other computer.

If you use ZoneAlarm and are attempting to share a modem (cable in my case), it will not let you connect unless the Internet Security setting is at Medium. (If anyone knows how to get around this please let me know!)

I am going to attempt to use the internet connection sharing that is in Win98SE, there are instructions for it on the Proxim website - hopefully it will allow me to connect while still having ZoneAlarm on the High security setting. When I have the Symphony software running my internet connection seems to flake out on me sometimes, maybe this might help that also.

Otherwise -- the setup works fine for sharing my CD ROM and hard drives with the CF-01. I set up a shortcut in the sendto folder on the desktop that allows me to just right click on stuff that I want to sent to the CF-01.

I am using the Symphony HomeRF PC Card (443X). I sounds like the Symphony PC Card (4402) works.

Can anyone confirm this?

I am currently using the Symphony USB on my desktop and a Symphony HomeRF on my Laptop. Now I have to decide whether I am using the wrong card.

Thanks for all of your input,
scoggd

Update. I bought a Syphony PC Card (4402) which IS different than a Symphony HomeRF PC Card (443X). At least as far as the Panasonic CF-01 and Win95 are concerned. The 4402 card installed easily and now my CF-01 is on my network.
