FS: Separate Docking Stations, and Main Units /Batteries
How about a CF-01 without docking station for $195, or a docking station for $185?

I have received a number of inquiries from people who bought into the group deal, who now would like to find a second docking station or a spare battery. Unfortunately, there are no docking stations to be had separately (I checked), and at this point batteries are still pricy. But since I have a few CF-01's left over, I've been thinking of a win/win solution that might satisfy everybody...

How about if I were to split the remaining units up? I could provide, for example...

A complete CF-01 WITH battery for $195. (The battery is worth $150 alone.) No docking station or AC adapter. Of course if you have a CF-01 you already have one charger/adapter. Alternatively I'm guessing that an AC adapter from something else could be used with very little effort. The plug size is very common, and the output (DC 15 volt/2.6 amp) not particularly odd. (Parts surplus places often sell various orphaned AC adapters cheap. On a quick search I saw one for $29 that looked promising on one site; I'll bet one could be found for less if you looked a bit.)

I suppose I could even take it even further and split them up even more if interest warranted it - i.e. unit alone without battery or AC power supply for $120, and battery alone for $90... but of course the more I split it, the more of a hassle it becomes logistically, so I'm not sure I'm crazy about that option...

AND...

A Docking Station plus AC Adapter/Charger for $185. This would allow you to move your CF-01 back and forth between two rooms, or between your home and office, and charge/dock it in either location. Or perhaps mount one docking station in your car.

The caviat is that I don't want to end up with an uneven number of units, batteries, and docking stations. So if demand for one far exceeds the other, I'd want to alter the prices a bit to equalize demand. And I would only sell an equal number of each; i.e. if I get 4 requests for units and 5 for docking stations, the fifth person to ask for a docking station will not get it unless a 5th person requests a unit.

Do you think this is worth persuing? It would be a bit of a hassle on my end, but it seems like an interesting idea...

I'd be interested in getting a battery. If that means paying a bit more to get the pad itself, I'd be willing. Count me in. :) BTW, has anybody managed to put together a battery using lithium batteries? I can't understand that page in Japanese.

I too would be interested in a battery or a docking station alone or an adapter alone...

Seems like the more you split them up the more they cost. Of course doesn't everything work out that way.

I wouldn't mind some spare parts but I don't really have the money right now since I just bought one of the Stylistic 1200's in the other area. I think that these are going to depress the market for pen based computers for some time since the seller has (I heard) around 1000 and is putting them up in lots of 100 on ebay for $150. I still think the CF-01 is a great deal but many people are going to jump on the more powerful 1200 at less than half the price even though it is used and doesn't have the dock included.

Yes indeed, the more I split them up the more they will cost (but only by a few bucks) because it means I have to pack and ship 2 or 3 times as many parcels, handle 2 or 3 times as many paypal transactions, etc. Like I said, it would be easier for me not to break them up at all.

How does the Panasonic compare to the Fujitsu? In terms of price, they're pretty close. The Fujitsu is $150, versus $195 for the Panasonic without docking station (plus a bit extra to buy/modify a charger) based on my above proposal. But for the difference in price, the Panasonic is brand new and factory sealed, whereas the Fujitsu units are used (they are retired industrial units; probably saw some hard use) and sold without a warranty.

The Fujistu's main advantages appear to be a slightly faster processor (Pentium 120 vs. AMD 133) and built-in sound card. On the other hand, the Fujitsu is twice as heavy as the Panasonic, and significantly larger. In addition, whereas a docking station is inexpensively available for the Panasonic, finding one for a Fujitsu could be difficult. Also the Panasonic has Win95 preinstalled (whereas the Fujitsu's hard drive has been wiped clean), and the Panasonic does not require a special stylus like the Fujitsu does.

Frankly they're both bargains. The Fujitsu's larger size (and as-is condition) make it less desirable for my particular needs (mostly wireless networking, portability, and websurfing). On the other hand, I must admit some curiousity about it. I almost bought one myself, just to get a chance to play with one, but ultimately decided that for that close in price to the Panasonic it just wasn't worth it. If the Panasonic hadn't been available I'd definately have bought a Fujitsu, but the Panasonic is really tough to beat for the price. If this guy really has 1000 of them, then they're likely to still be available well after the Panasonics are long gone; maybe I'll wait until they get under $100 and then snag one just for kicks

I definately would be interested in a "split" CF-01 offer. I'd love the machine and battery without the dock since my existing CF-01 screen is kind-of bad, and I've been unable to find the extra $350 for a "complete" replacement. I hope this becomes a possibility. Thanks.......

Okay, let's do it. Please Pmail me if you want in. (tech@busdepot.com)

Pmail me if you want a docking station with AC adapter for $185 (as noted above.)
Pmail me if you want a CF-01 with battery for $195 (as noted above).

I am not sure if I will sell the CF-01 and battery separately. Please pmail me if you would like one of those options (CF-01 for $120 without battery/AC, or battery alone for $90). In both cases, please indicate if you will accept a CF-01-plus-battery combo at $195 if it turns out that I will be unable to split those two items up.

I'll have to sort through the requests so that I don't end up with mismatches, so it may take a few days to get back to you. Requests will be honored on a first-come first-serve basis.
