Netier 1000xl and 3com 3c460b?

I've run into my first problem in configuring and testing this thing. The usb ethernet adapter I'm planning to use is only pushing a max of 2.3Mbps, my cable connection routinely sees bursts up to 5-6Mbps...Has anyone else run into throughput problems with the 3c460b adapters? For reference I'm using the 2.4.18 linux kernel and the stock usb-uhci and pegasus drivers that come with that. From what little info I've been able to scrounge up, at least one other person using a 3c460b is seeing 8Mbps out of it, which would be acceptable.

I need the builtin ethernet as well as an additional card for my setup. My cable modem is ethernet only and the way I run everything two cards are required for it to route properly. Is anyone seeing over 420k/sec on transfers with usb ethernet adapters?
