Hi was wondering what type of cdrom and floppy drive can be added to this to install xp on it.
I see that its a 44 pin connector for the hd and the ide cable has a place for another device but where can i find a cdrom to fit it.[wouldnt mind adding a dvd player for it] Im trying to fix a small computer for my desk at work, kinda out of site, not really suppose to have one, hehe. I already have a cabinet setup with a 15in monitor inside of it, i now am trying to figure out how to install a dvd player inside of it. I tested 256mb of ram in the netier and it boots up just fine, so ram isnt a issue, maybe a better cpu would be though. i am running a 300 or 350 amd right now.

any info or advise will be greatly appreciated

I haven't tried a DVDROM but any old CDROM drive should work fine. There are a few complications though. First, the XL1000 case is too small to hold even the thinnest optical media drive so the CDROM will have to sit outside the case. Second, the XL only has one IDE connector on the motherboard. So the cable will have to go from the connector to the 2.5" hard drive and then outside the case to the CDROM. Third, if you use a non-laptop CDROM, you'll need an adapter to hook it up to the 44-pin cable.

There's more but this will give you a taste of what you are up against. I'll gladly elaborate on the best way to proceed if you are still interested.

Does anyone know what kind of memory this thing takes? I know it is 100MHz SDRAM, but does anyone know the pin count, module height, etc.?
