Hello all, I have a couple of Netier XL-1000's I have one that I did some tinkering in the bios and now I have no video. It beeps, so I know its booting, and I know the monitor is good.
Anyone have any idea which jumper is the bios reset?
P.S. a hint.... As some of you have discovered, the internal DOC has some sort of MBR protection to stop you from formatting it. If you "sys c:" from a win98 floppy, it will overwrite that, OR you can use ranish partitioner and use the option "write zeros to drive" and it will also overwrite it.
Does anyone have any idea what the max size DOC they will take?

Hello,
I believe it is jumpter J24 which is near the CMOS battery (you need to short pin 2-3).
I think I read that the max size for the DOC is 144 MB.
What you doing with yours? I'm trying to build a 32MB distribution of linux so it would fit on a DOC and would allow me to play MP3's and audio CD's. I'm a newbie when it comes to linux so I haven't gotten very far.

I actually realized that I had an SL-1000 and I think it is J25.. which is very near the battery.. Good hint though, you sent me in the right direction.
I have 2 of these, mine have hard drives in them as well as the DOC. I am going to put win98 on one as a work terminal, then use the other one with a larger DOC i got from ebay as a developmental machine for some windows CE work I am playing with. I wish there was enough room for me to put a larger heat sink on the case... I would have loved to have a totally silent machine with no moving parts at all.

The Netier SL/XL series will take the largest DOC that M-Systems has to offer, as long as the pinouts remain the same. Also, the motherboard for Netier SL/XL boxes are off-the-shelf, so you can find the spec sheet by looking online for that manufacturer's model number - it's stamped on the board.
As for formatting, be careful if you add a 192MB or larger DOC - that's a slightly different technology, and 'writing the drive with zeros' can overwrite more than the data area. M-Systems has a set of tools that runs in 16bit DOS that allows formatting, and image read/writes.
