Has anyone gotton disk-on-chip support for linux working yet ? I been poking around LRP and found some HOWTOs on how to add disk-on-chip support to LRP but they documents are kind old and deal with 4.2.1 driver from m-sys, which is no longer available.

yep me too i had trouble with having disk on chip support in linux kernel and only one os called qnx has add on disk on chip support and they work
so.... compiling the doc support on netier is a pain in the butt cause in 2.2.18 i get too many errors so im going to compile it on other machine and transfer it via ftp :)

vwbug19 - How did you attempt to build ? Are you using LRP as well ? Or are you using red hat and following the instructions that come with the m-sys linux driver ?

regarding your ftp comment. Are you going to boot qnx and then ftp over a linux module for doc support ?

I got the DOC working with LRP, but haven't had time to add the USB support to add the second NIC to the system yet. I am using the Dachstein version with 2.2.19 kernel.

I got side track after getting the DOC support from M-SYS working in the 2.2.19 kernel and wanted to try the MTD driver instead so it will be better for distribution. For the MTD drivers, I decided to go with the BERING version since it is using the 2.4.X kernel and the MTD drivers will work as a Module with this kernel. So far, I can get the DOC recognized in Linux with the MTD drivers, but for the life of me, it won't let me create a FAT partition to use with SYSLINUX. Without this ability, I have not been able to get LRP on the DOC in a format that is distributable.

I have not found any information regarding if the MTD drivers support the creation of a FAT partition and the ability to run Linux from a FAT partition with SYSLINUX created using the MTD drivers yet. I have not had any problems with the DOC drivers from M-SYS, but I am trying to keep away from having to distribute anything with the M-SYS drivers on it if possible.

I can't say how long this may be, before I get something working. I've been extremely busy lately and have not had much time to devote to this hobby.

kNiTe_oWl - great hear that you are still working on this ! I am curious why you do not want to distribute a lrp image with the m-sys drivers ?

Check out:

www.allwell.tv/DownLoad/DiskOnChip/diskonchip.html

and

lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-mtd/

Using these two resources I was ableto get DoC working under linux using kernel 2.4.13. Make sure you download the lastest mtd drivers and not the ones from 2000 (almost two years old) that are on the linux mtd website: www.linux-mtd.infradead.org/

Use teh ftp link on the page to get the latest drivers.

I had to use the eraseall utility included in the mtd package to wipe out the DoC and then nftl_format (also in the mtd package) before I could create a filesystem on the DoC.
