okay everyone I got in bios, I guess I am gonna post my exploits on here. I set it to boot first on c: drive, but IO have no way of powering the hd. The power supply is too small for an hd. What should I do??? Oh for reference to get into bios(this is very very easy) you just plug in a regular keyboard and hold down F1 before boot. I still get the bootp error, wonder what will happen when i put in an hd.

hmm that was a false lead, still can't solve this one. Anyone out there that can help?? doubt it...but if there is...The setup is as follows. The hd is connceted to the ide port on the main computer, and the powersupply from my desktop is connected to it(very wierd setup) the bios reads the specs on the disk but cannot boot off of it. I get an invalid system disk error. Anyone seen this kind of thing?

A few months ago the isp (uswest) that my father was using for his web top box said it would nolonger support it so he got a refund, i got the box. this morning after opening it up i noticed it had what apears to be an ide connector. the box is made by NIC but the intresting part is that it is almost nothing like the ones in the pictures that have been displayed here. there is no cd-rom drive but this one does have a modem, but it also has a tuner, video in (rca), video out (rca), s-video out, wireless keyboard, smart card port (i think its desinged for internet shopping i.e. smart creditcard) and the kicker, it has keyboard, parallel, monitor, and serial ports. i have hooked this up to a monitor and it will drive it at aprox 320x240 using the internal os. my hope is to turn this back into a set top for my father so he may still acess the internet. any information you have would be greatly helpful. i will try to post pictures of it later.
If god wanted us to leave things the way they were, why did he invent curiosity?

I just bid on one of these on ebay... Looks like they are easily hackable.

This site tells you how to get into the bios settings and stuff:

I don't have a ThinkNIC, but as for the power supply problem I think you guys might need a couple hints from the websurfer section. The websurfer is similar, it doesn't have any extra power cables for any extra drives. However, you can splice one of these cables into the cable that connects the motherboard to the power supply, just match up the colors (might want to verify this first with a tester). This is what I did with my websurfer anyway, and it works fine. The easiest way to do it IMHO is to get some Y-splitter/crimpter things. They're a little peice of plastic that you can clamp two wires together to splice them together, sorry I can't explain it better you might want to search the websurfer areas.

Hope this helps.
