BIOS string for ThinkNic

New MessageBIOS string for ThinkNic (modified 0 times) mrdensity

Knowing that this part of the message board is rarely visited I am hoping that someone can post the bios string for their ThinkNic computer. I have corrupted my bios and am looking for a clean rom image that will get it to boot again. I get no beeps and other than the cooling fans and drives spinning up on powerup there is no activity from my ThinkNic.

If someone can provide their bios string so I can search for a DL of the rom or even a link to a clean image I would certainly love to get mine back up and running.

Thanks immenseley,

Aaron Griesel

Somehow when I wrote this it sounded much more coherant and much less like my previous ramblings.

Check out the following URL:

http://www.thenicstore.com/isos/nicBios107b0508FreeDOSProd.iso.gz

It claims to be a GZIP, but it's not. It's actually just a straight ISO for a BIOS flash. I'm not sure what version it is, but I know that later versions of the BIOS had the multiplier locked and NIC was providing an earlier version without the multiplier lock, but I'm not sure if this is it.

While you're there, you might want to look at the parent directory at:

http://www.thenicstore.com/isos/

It contains an ISO for Version 3.0 of the NIC OS, the packages they used to make it, and an NFS kernel.

Let me know if you still need info about the BIOS in my machine and I'll try to get it for you.

OK, OK, I said to let me know if you still needed help. I got curious and figured I'd check my machine. Here is what I got:

BIOS Release v1.09j 2001/03/14

11/24/2000-SiS-5598-LAN-PCC-00

So... Mine is 1.09j and the link I sent was for 1.07b, so it does appear to be an earlier version probably without the multiplier lock, but I'll have to flash it to find out. I want to save my old one first, so it might take me a while to flash this one.

More info about this CD. I burned the CD. It does indeed contain the 1.07b BIOS as the default. If you abort flashing the BIOS, it also has 1.09i on the same CD. I'm going to get the stuff today to hook up my hard drive and I should be able to make a backup of my current BIOS. Once I do that, I'll try the other two and let you know the differences.

Thank You ! That is just the information I was looking for. Their site has changed recently. Any requests for www.thinknic.com/ get redirected to www.thenicstore.com/ . But your direct link to the directory landed just the information I seemed to be looking for. Funny it was there all along, just not on the well-beaten path. I am downloading the contents to a storage disk as I type this.

With a little persistance and luck I might hopefully get a new BIOS flashed and put in, allowing it to boot.

Thanks again !

Glad to be of help. I've still not gotten my current BIOS backed up. I still need to get an IDE header to make my replacement for the Feiya flash disk. I'm cannibalizing a dead motherboard for another project and it doesn't have the right type of IDE header on it. I'm hoping to get something soon. Good luck flashing your BIOS. I don't know if they provided any kind of recovery routine in case of bad BIOS flash. Speaking of BadFlash, if all else fails, you should be able to extract the necessary files from that CD and send it to him to re-flash it for you.
