I'm halfway through installing Windows 98se. Here is what I did to get it going.

1) Removed CF from socket.
2) Tried booting directly from a format drive with system installed on it. Nothing happened, just the Gateway logo.
3) Removed drive and attached the IDE CDROM drive that Badflash sells.
4) Booted up off of CD and it asked if I wanted to boot from CD or Disk. I said CD.
5) Tried to install from cd, but it didn't like it. So I had put WIN98 folder on drive and installed from there.
6) Restarted system and it boots up and seems ok. Now on to loading the drivers......

Hmm,

sounds like the Win98 installation didnt really like the GCT. I think the cut-n-paste method of Win98 install works best. I did it with my I-opener and it was a breeze. Plus, you have all the neccesary drivers on the HD in case you forget something.

Not sure why step 2 didn't work Skypilot, maybe a bad MBR or something, but you should normally be able boot from an HD you've SYS'd and put system files on with Windows Setup cabs.
I guess that's what you ended up doing, judging by step 6), how did you make that work ? By booting from CD ?
I for one didn't need to do that, so people who don't have the Badflash CD-Rom drive cable shouldn't be worried, in case they were !
