a friend forwarded this press release to me:

BiTMICRO Networks has just turned loose their E-Disk ATA solid state flash disk series, which offers capacities of up to 17.4 GB in a 2.5-inch form factor. BiTMICRO's 2.5-inch ATA E-Disk series provides 17.4 GB, 13.3 GB, 9.2 GB, 5.1 GB and 1 GB at 24.8 mm, 20.7 mm, 16.7 mm, 12.6 mm and 8.6 mm heights respectively. The 2.5-inch ATA E-Disk series is offered with storage capacities starting at 128 MB and moving on up to 17.4 GB. BiTMICRO says the E-Disk ATA provides burst read and writes rates of 16.66 MB/sec and sustained random read and write rates of up to 14 MB/sec. It's powered by its own RISC processor and is ATA-2, ATA-3, and ATA-4 compatible. The E-Disk works with Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS and LynxOS. It also supports AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, IRIX, NetBSD, OS/2, QNX, VxWorks, SCO Unixware and OpenServer, Solaris x86, and Tru64.

not sure on pricing but this sounds like a very cool option for a lot of the network appliances we all have

Well since pricing on solid-state non-volatile storage is still exorbitantly high, We probably wont be seeing any of these for awhile...A 512 MB compact flash card is about $1,500!

Just to give you an example...see here
Current Mass storage RAM tech is *very* expensive!

If these guys can market this type of product at as yet unheard of prices, That will be Kickass..but I think they'll be aiming for the server/network crowd.
