Check out this tasty site:
http://www.tapr.org

And the CompactFlash Board:
http://www.tapr.org/tapr/html/cfa.html

Very cool because it acts as a "Hard Disk".
So maby different OS's will treat it as an Hard Disk also?

In case someone doesn't want to hook up a hard disk in the GCT to load a OS. They can simply put this in their big computer, load it on, then throw the CF back into the GCT.

Here's another page with a similar product. They are in Canada and prices are listed in Canadian. With the exchange rate, it should be cheaper in US$.

Even cheaper:

Anyone willing to organize a group buy? I could use one or two of these.

Still a bit puzzled...I don't think you'll find too many OSs that can fit on a CF. BeOS and Linux, but getting WinME (read my other posts to find out why you don't want to use W98) is gonna be impossible I think unless you use 98lite and get a 128mb CF, but that twice the price of a small HGD, so...

These would work great for a PC where you want fast and silent disk access. It would be more tolerant of heat as well.

Specific to the Gateway touchpad, the adapter would also be invaluable in placing an alternate OS on the CF card, and do other tricks that a standard USB or parallel reader aren't cabable of.

hum..ok, what kind of tricks do you have in mind ?
The problem right now (no access to BIOS) is that plugging in the CF makes the HD unusable. So if you want to have both, you're going to have to crank the thing open each time you want to boot from the CF...
Actually I've got a Dual CD to IDE adapter, i.e. I can put two CF on the same card. Don't know if both cards are recognized though.
