I'm having a hard time getting the power adapter directly from Gateway. It's not in their "system" so they claim it is not sold seperately. Bulls&*t!! I'm going over to a Gateway Country store today and not leaving without one!!!!

The adapter for the GCT is 19V 3.16A - The one for the Solo is 19V 2.4A - will the different amperage be a problem for the GCT? - If not should I look for an adappter with higher or lower amperage? - I saw that HP Omnibooks use adapters with 19V 3.16A - I wonder if that will work?

All the power bricks are made by Delta Electronics who, of course, does not sell directly to the public.

Good news...I ended up calling the Gateway tech support line for employees only. They will ship me the power adapter for five bucks. No charge for the adapter itself.

. . . End of thread!

I went to a Gateway Country store and spoke to a woman in the service dept. She made all kinds of phone calls trying to track down the power adapter. She finally got a hold of some technician but he needed the serial number off my GCT.

I was patient and nice enough that she gave me the phone number of the technician so that I could call back with my serial number. When I called, they asked me which store I was calling from. At first they weren't going to help me because it was a "Store Only" help line. I quickly explained the situation and they asked for the employees name, store location, etc. and he agreed to help me.

I hope I didn't get this woman in any trouble. The technician said that next time I should speak to the Gateway Portables Customer Service at 1-800-846-2301. They also gave me some other help line specifically for the GCT 1-877-485-1465. The people at Gateway don't seem to know too much about this product.

Just want to share my experiment:
I had a spare Thinkpad power supply at home ant tried it on the GCT.
The specifications are: 16V - 3.36A
It worked perfectly for my unit. No problem whatsoever.
So, I figure the GCT can successfully work with less volts, maybe
because of the wonders of the Transmeta and its low power consumption,
I don't know. Anyway, be aware this could be a unit-specific situation.
What worked for me could not work for your unit. I guess that lower
volts wouldn't be dangerous as long as the unit works, but note that
I'm not responsible if you try and damage your unit... Do it at your
own risk.
