how do you boot from a compressed drive?

I am trying to fit win98 on a 128MB CF, but I ca'nt get it to boot from the CF. I think the problem is that the drive is compressed with drivespace3. Is it possible to boot from this?

yes it is. I used the files from the Webplayer IE.doc.

I still haven't gotten around to upping the 60 odd megs of my image and I'm beginning to think it doesn't really make much sense.
What I'll do is explain my method on my site with the files required to boot.
check this out later today:

I followed y;our instructions and it still won't boot. I get the same error as before, 'non system disk', or something like that. It would still be a big help if you could upload your image. If I could get windows under 128MB then I could compress it on the GCT and hopefully it would still boot after that. I don't know, but i'm stuck and just want this thing to work. If anyone has any other ideas, let me know. By they way, thanks for the help yellow1. Oh, I used a USB -> CF adapter , maybe that doesn't work? Since PCMCIA adapters are so cheap, I might try using that.

hum...and you did sys the HP on the CF right ?
One thing you could try is if you have Partition Magic is "activate" the partition.

I've had these "non system" problems on many systems before (webplayer, Fujitsu), etc...and eventually got it to work by sys'ing the disk by doing a fdisk /mbr, by activating the partition in Partition Magic...

Reformating your CF in Win98 might help too. The image won't do you any good, because you're just going to be copying its content into the CP so the HP from which you're booting from will be unaffected.

It would also be a big help to me if you were still able to upload your image because I don't have an extra HD to make a fresh Win install on.

Well, I formatted the CF and tried sysing it from a fresh format and it still won't boot. I did this to a different CF card and it did boot, so I think it might be that the partition isn't set to active? I can't figure out how to set it as active though. fdisk doesn't recognise the drive, and either does partition magic. I have the CF in a USB reader. Anyone have any idea how to set it active?

When you compressed with DriveSpace there is a box to check to set the partition to unlocked or something, tried that? My WinME machine would not let me compress, I did it on one with 95b though.
