Sound- Resource Conflict
Sound- Resource Conflict

I am running Win95b off of flash right now. I have tried the sound drivers listed and I get a resource conflict message in the system devices area. Anyone else had this or know how to fix it? It won't let me change the conflicting IRQ but I can change the other settings.

I got rid of the resource conflict, but I still get no sound from any program (WinAmp, MediaPlayer, SoundRecorder, etc.). I have all volume settings on full-blast and have tried headphones too. The only time I have heard sound from my Touchpad is when the modem dials...any suggestions?

Try removing the WDM driver in the system properties and re-boot to let Windows re-detect the sound chip, There might be a issue with Windows 95 with the driver, I know under Win98 after I installed the drivers and re-booted I got no sound until the second reboot then it worked.

What IRQ is Win95 trying to use with the sound? mine is using IRQ 10

Mine was using a VxD driver when it had been detecting, this I had downloaded from Acer (16MB, but said it was for 95/NT4). I have uninstalled and reinstalled this as well as the WDM driver (seperate occasions of course) and rebooted several times each try. Mine is using IRQ 9, also used by "motherboard resources". When sound is detected, it always has an exclamation and I reset the memory and IO ranges to non-conflicting ones. The exclamation goes away, but no sound. Possibly related, under Other Devices in the Device Manager, I have a PCI Bridge and no drivers. I guess I may be forced to go to Win98...I was just hoping 95 would work because the cabs at 60MB are small enough to copy to my MicroDrive and do a complete install with. My 98 laptop has 200MB cabs, so that wouldn't work there.

Try taking the min-pci card out, take the cmos battery and leave the unit unplugger overnight.

Then put the battery back in the next day, leave the mini-pci out and boot back up. This should clear cmos and make the bios re-select the resource settings, only after you have the sound configured at different IRQ, then later put the HPNA or ethernet card back in.

This is the only thing I can think of to reset cmos since we can't enter setup yet.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a try.

Well, I tried that twice now. Once for about half a day, the next time for a day and a half. Still on IRQ 9. I notice that there are several free IRQs that are not being used, why sound is doubled up I don't understand. I wonder if 95 just doesn't support the chipset? I still have a PCI bridge in the "other devices".

"Other Device" most likely is the USB controller, I have loaded about 5 GCT's with Win98se and so far have had no problem so perhaps the problem is Win95 not the device it's self??

I now have WinME loaded on a MicroDrive, works great. I hope I don't wear out the MicroDrive with this...
