it is completely gone...i didn't look really hard...but in some basic searches and browsing i couldn't fine even one reference to ANY gateway connected device...it is gone my friends
Read my post from 2 days ago, it's bad news/good news/great news if you already have one and want to get more for $199. Mine's on eBay right now 'cause I really need the bucks (unplanned emergency, also had to sell my WebPlayer. Waaaah!), but I'll hopefully be able to get another within a month or so while they're still around. Never saw the guy on TradeOut rematerialize after his last run, he should still have 980 of these stashed somewhere if he was actually for real....
oh yeah...that one a whole few threads down...doh!
want to earn a little extra cash? i attempted to solder the IDE header on...and it looked pretty good with a magnifying glass...i don't think i screwed anything up permanently...but there are definitely connections not being made...i think there will need to be a dab of solder put on each pin...this goes beyond my abilities with a soldering iron...hopefully i will have time to ship it to someone who can help in the next week or so...wanna help a brother out?
Are you sure it is the header? What kind of problems are you having? I thought I had a connection issue with my header, would boot up but after Gateway screen I would only get a blue screen with white box in middle and it would go no further. Hooked HD up to desktop machine and found out it was prompting for scandisk only the text wasn't showing up on Gateway screen. After correcting this on desktop, hooked HD back into Touchpad and it booted up fine all the way to windows.
i am pretty positive it is the IDE header...the drive works fine in my main machine...it is brand new too...i get funky, red ASCII characters which seems to be typical of a bad IDE header connection in this machine
I can resolder the header, and verify operation, for $25 + S&H. I've done six so far, no problems. Hopefully nothing got hosed when you installed it. Email me if interested, can turn it around in 24 hours after receipt....
