Two questions of suitability

Hey Guys,

I just bought a touchpad off of the ebay guy, now two questions as to what I'll want to do with this:

1) Would it be suitable for a "digital picture frame" for my mom? I've been wanting to get her one, at ~$150 for parts seems like this might be a good solution. Can you view the screen well at off-angles?

2) If not, what about a standalone mp3 player for my home stereo? I'd tie it into the network and share a directory off my server. Is the touchpad sensitive enough that I'll be able to use my fingers to navigate folders etc under windows? Can it stream off the network without chokeing the processor?

Thanks! Now I just have to find a power brick... ideas appreciated on that, too!

Proabaly not too great for a picture frame as the screen is not Active Matrix and doesn't have that great of a view angle.

Works great as an mp3 player. I am using mine for one with my stereo, plays songs off of my ethernet fine.

Darn - I had been hoping to hear that it would make a good picture frame. Was all set to get it professionally mounted etc.

Oh well - on the mp3 issue - how did you get audio out? Is there a line level port somewhere, or did you just tie into the speakers? My biggest concern is the touchscreen interface - will this work out well, IE can I just put it on top of my stereo and use my finger to select playlists, etc?

Well, it wouldn't be a bad picure frame necessarily, but certainly not ideal.

There is a headphone/speaker out jack on the GCT. Just plug in a speaker cable. I have an adapter that changes phones to RCA to plug into my tuner.

The touchscreen is fine for finger touch. Only problem is usually button size. I happen to be working on a player oriented toward finger operation (see thread below). Others use WinAmp in big mode or players with big-button skins, etc.

Oh, ok - cool! Didn't realize there was already a line out on the player. That makes life a little easier!!

About the mp3 player, I also wondered about the icon size issue... I was looking at add-ons for winamp and there are hundreds out there, I'm thinking SOMETHING can do the trick. Looks like it should be relatively easy to write a "big" plug-in for basic controls for winamp? There were lots of command-line driven controls (ie play.exe, next.exe) and you could arrange all the important icons on the screen....
