Hi,
This is just a thought, however elsewhen on this bbs another system was described... from http://www.rise.com.tw/ it lacked the integrated LCD screen, but appeared to have a lot going for it other than that.... is the addiction of a net appliance to us the LCD screen or is it the small form factor/power?

This Gateway discussion causes me to think we're more interested (as a group) in essentially a pre-fab semi-laptop for under $250... the general lack of interest in the rise surprises me in that it's arguably a more powerful product has TV out/vga out...

I've become a bit less impressed by the locked in 10" LCD screens over time (perhaps familiarity breeds contempt)...what I do love about I-Openers is the quiet/power and small form factor... I believe however I'm starting to migrate slowly away from wanting/demanding an integrated LCD, I'd be interested in reading others thoughts.

For me, it's definitely form factor. Quiet, thin little computer with decent power, certainly enough for email and web browsing. They're all simply cool toys.

I agree, The cool factor of The I-opener is definitely what hooked me.
Plus the fact that most people overlooked it. Everybody that sees it tells me how cool it is. The Gateway touchpad seems like a newer incarnation of the I-opener, with an even bigger "cool" factor, Touchscreen, two USB, Ethernet built-in (hopefully)...

the rise doesn't impress or interest me in the least...it's just another small, probably flexatx PC...no biggie...i can get a bookpc and have almost the same thing...plus, the price point will be higher than the appliances that are usually subsidized (continually which blows my mind) by companies in hopes of making revenue by forcing the customer to use their products/service...because the webplayer, i-opener, gateway, etc are subsidized their cost is minimal

and hacking them is just fun...it's cool to have something a bit different than everyone else...and the touchscreen possibility on the gateway really ups the cool factor
